The Bircher CoverLine range of safety edges are a robust and reliable solution for protecting dangerous shear or trap points in automatic gates - sliding, swing and folding versions, lift tables and platforms.
Please use our made to measure tool to specify the safety edge you require First select the rubber profile required, taking care to make sure the over travel figure is suitable for your application, then choose the cable and resistor combination, the mounting aluminium rail and finally the length from 300 mm to 5000 mm.
Important: Please ensure that the safety edge is suitable for your application and the overtravel figure meet the demands of your application..
Bircher CoverLine safety edges have been developed especially for sliding gate applications, however they are an excellent choice for use on lifting platforms such as stages or AGVs. The sizes range from 45 to 105 mm tall, which are clipped into the size of the special flat aluminium mounting rail.
There is no better choice of Bircher safety edges, safety ribs or bump strips for sliding gates. The side mounting feature of the profile attaches them securely to the sliding gate and owing to them being fixed on both sides, they also react to side impacts of a moving object. This secure method of installation and the higher over travel figures makes them suitable for moving platforms, automated trolleys and large industrial doors.
Safety edges are manufactured in two formats a “pass through” or “link” version with two cables and the “end-of-line” version with 8k2 terminating resistors. Up to four edges (as recommended by Bircher) can be are wired together in series with each other with the 8k2 version being the last link in the chain. The switching unit monitors the resistance of the series of safety edges, if any of the edges in the chain are compressed this will cause the safety relays on the switching unit to open, also if any of the cables in the circuit are damaged the unit will show this as a fault and the safety relays will be opened.
